POSTAGE STAMPS WITHOUT STICKING GUM

It was noticed in December, 2005 that postage stamps being sold in Post Offices were without sticking gum. It was causing a lot of problem to the consumers who had to look for sticking gum before using the postage stamps. We immediately took up the matter with the Department of Posts, Government of India vide our letter dated 28.12.2005. The reply received from the Member (Operations & Marketing), Postal Services Board, is reproduced below for the information of readers:

"Kindly refer to your letter dated 28.12.2005 regarding ungummed public postage stamps.

2) In this context, I would like to inform you that the Department is seized of this matter for sometime. Some time ago it was seen that the quality of gumming in the paper on which stamps are printed was not up to the mark. It was, therefore, felt by our security press that since procurement of good quality gum would be a time taking exercise, we should go ahead with printing of definitive stamps on ungummed paper to avoid inconvenience to customers and to ensure the availability of postage stamps.

We assure you that on the definitive stamps also very soon gumming of good quality, will resume.

We, however, appreciate your active interest in this matter. "
