Strengthening SMCs
On 26th July 2025, A Common Cause team comprising Dr Vipul Mudgal and Rishikesh Kumar participated in a School Management Committee (SMC) meeting in Alwar, Rajasthan, under the auspices of a popular local NGO, Sapna and distributed copies of the awareness booklet “Hamara school, Hamaree Rakhwali.”. The visit focused on strengthening the SMCs by discussing their roles, powers, and responsibilities to improve school governance.
Domestic Workers’ PIL
On August 3, 2025, Radhika Jha, Rishikesh Kumar, Divya Chauhan, and Vinson Prakash from Common Cause met with Sr. Christin Mary, National Convenor of the National Platform for Domestic Workers (NPDW); National Coordinators of NPDW, including Fr. Vargeese and Mr. Subash Bhatnagar; Ms. Nalini Nayak, Secretary of SEWA, Kerala; among others to discuss an upcoming PIL aimed at addressing the plight of domestic workers in India. The discussion focused on key issues such as the lack of a comprehensive legal framework, the absence of fixed working hours, the denial of paid leave, the unregulated placement agencies, unfair working conditions, and inadequate protection of domestic workers’ fundamental rights.
Session on DPDP & RTI Acts
On July 29, 2025, members of the Common Cause team attended a day-long consultation at the Deputy Speaker Hall Annexe, Constitution Club, New Delhi, on the implications of the amendment to the RTI Act through the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA). Organised by the Roll Back RTI Amendments Campaign, the Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reforms (CJAR), and the Press Club of India, the consultation brought together journalists, researchers, activists, and civil society representatives to discuss the Act’s potential to weaken the RTI framework and its impact on transparency, accountability, and democratic governance. Dr Vipul Mudgal, Director, Common Cause, moderated a session on the challenges faced by professional journalists.

26th Sep, 2025, Major Gen (Retd) Nilendra Kumar of the Lex Consolium Foundation interviewed Radhika Jha from Common Cause on police torture for a series of videos. It covered a range of issues, such as the reasons for police torture, justifications about due processes and India’s global standing in terms of custodial torture.
